Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on March 26th in 1991. She is an American artist and songwriter, as well as the first artist signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. Dreamville Records released her debut EP titled Pho in October of 2016 when she began to get recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It came out in May 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her music onto the internet back in 2012 after she launched her debut mixtape Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography, in 2013. She continued to upload her tracks online through 2014 and released her own single Bound. She appeared in Omen's Elephant Eyes as well as on Sweat It Out on July 21 the 21st of July, 2015. J. Cole had her sing her songs to the Dreamville Team in the following year because he was hoping for Rihanna to be able work together on a few references. She officially was signed by Dreamville Records on 8 December. Backseat was her contribution to the Revenge of the Dreamers II album. The singer released Pho, her debut EP, on Oct 21 in 2016. Ari Lennox then appeared as the opening act for J. Cole on his song Change in 2017, and performed on 4 Your Eyez Only Tour. In 2018, she went on to guest feature on two tracks with her labelmates EarthGang in Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox, on the 16th of July 2018 was the first artist to release her single "Whipped Cream" from Shea Butter Baby. The music video to accompany it came out on the 5th. In November, she released two singles, forty Shades of Choke & Grampa. In November 13, she released two more singles called The No One and Pedigree. They then teamed up as a guest on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on a track titled Shea Butter Baby on November 16 and released as a single on the 26th of February 2019 to accompany her debut album with the same name. The song, released with a video on YouTube February 20, 2019 has been viewed over 3 million times within the first seven days. She supported 6LACK's From East Atlanta With Love Tour at the end of December 2018.
